Recruited to bring new leadership and focus to Pharmavite’s Packaging Engineering (PE) organization. Define and manage department’s overall direction, facilitate inter-departmental relationships, champion organizational (systems, staff, equipment) upgrades to drive new capabilities, streamline engineering workloads, hire and develop staff, establish and communicate packaging specifications, create accountabilities for all department engineers, and ensure that PE workloads and priorities are aligned with all supported business units. Manage Packaging Lab and staff of six engineers. Serve as in-house subject matter expert and primary contact for all PE issues.

  • Repositioned PE as an integral business partner by establishing a new mission and cultural tone, defining its business focus and vision, upgrading staff and capabilities, and creating partnerships across all business lines.
  • Rebuilt the PE organization bringing outsourced work in house and fully staffing department for the first time in years. Championed and won buy-in for major PE upgrades.
  • Drove $735K annual savings within first 6 months of hire by streamlining data management tasks and identifying and removing non-essential engineering tasks.
  • Championed purchase of new Web-based specification system that turned around PE production by generating consistent, high-quality packaging specifications, improving the regulatory environment, and enabling mass change orders to be rapidly executed for the first time.

Initially hired to manage package engineering (Irvine, CA) on 4 brands before being promoted to oversee packaging for all North American hair care product lines. Developed and redesigned product packaging, directed plant trials and lab testing, assessed and resolved quality issues, revised specifications and BOMs for all active SKUs. Led 50+ packaging development and launch projects annually. Managed 2 indirect reports.

  • Captured $153K savings in first 60 days with an additional $385K in the first 6 months.

Assisted with packaging development, line trials, shipping tests, product launches and re-launches, label changes, computer system implementations, and cost savings projects. Managed and supported Neutrogena site and all networking and computing assets, researched and purchased new technologies, identified, sourced, and directed automation projects, oversaw post-implementation knowledge transfer, and directed Help Desk support team. Planned and managed installation of downtime tracking system for the manufacturing department.

  • Stepped in and drove million-dollar Vision System implementation project to completion on time and within budget; sourced new company to resolve programming issues and solved mechanical issues that were plaguing project.
